About the Southwest Washington Branch

The Southwest Washington Branch of the Oregon Section of ASCE was formed by a group of consulting engineers that wanted to be able to get together locally in Clark County to socialize and discuss topics specifically related to southwest Washington. Membership in the branch has grown to over 200 members. Members of the Branch continue to be involved with Oregon Section and Technical Group leadership, with Branch members currently filling the positions of Younger Member Forum Past-President, Section Webmaster, and EWRI President.

Past ActivitiesThe branch has been holding regular meetings since 1992. Over the years, in addition to monthly speaker meetings, the branch has held seminars, ventured on technical tours, and been involved with committees. Past seminars have covered a broad range of topics including the use of HEC-1, Ethics in Engineering, Pavement Design, Design and Construction of Stormwater Infiltration Systems, and Design Considerations Related to the Americans with Disabilities Act. The branch has had previous involvement with the development of agency requirements including providing committees to review and comment on the 1995 Clark County Stormwater Ordinance and reviewing previous editions of the Clark County Road Standards.


LOCATION CHANGE FOR MONTHLY MEETINGS! Speaker Meetings Speaker meetings are typically held monthly in the Vancouver Area. The May 2010 meetings will be held at ABC Buffet, 11505 Northeast 4th Plain Road, Vancouver, WA 98662-6322, from 12pm to 1 pm. The location is across from Goodwill. For ASCE members, the cost of the attending the meeting will still be $10.00. The cost for non members is $12.00. Elections are held in June of each year. Speaker meetings focus on a diverse group of topics. Recent speakers have included contractors, local agencies and consultants.

How to Get Involved Our board for 2009-2010 consists of the following people:

  • The branch is currently working towards producing an Infrastructure Report Card for the Clark County area and we need your help in making it a success. The Infrastructure Report Card Committee (IRCC) needs volunteers in all fields of civil engineering for a variety of tasks. Some of the general tasks include:

  • Developing agency contacts
  • Data collection and organization
  • Evaluation criteria development
  • Infrastructure assessments
  • Report card publication
  • The IRCC is currently working on developing agency contacts as part of the first phase of this endeavor, but volunteers will be needed throughout the entire process. If you are interested in participating in this valuable effort to raise awareness of our local infrastructure needs, please contact our IRCC Chair, Gabe Crop, P.E., at (503) 225-9010 or by e-mail and he can work with you more specifically on how you can help. Students and professionals of any experience level are welcome to participate.
