BRT/Transit Project Engineer

WSP USA’s Transit & Rail group in Portland, OR is currently recruiting for a Project Engineer (Lead Engineer) for BRT projects. The selected candidate must be a licensed Professional Engineer in Oregon or Washington, or must be eligible for such licensure through comity. The candidate must be capable of applying diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices, and independently making decisions on significant engineering problems or methods. The successful candidate is required to have Project management potential along with interpersonal and team skills to help expand firms national practice of bus rapid transit and support other transit modes such as Streetcar and Light rail. Job Duties: May direct segments of a major project or lead as a project manager on a minor project Participates in the application of engineering concepts and techniques Leads and performs preliminary and final Bus Rapid Transit designs Writing for marketing proposals and supporting business development Monitors project progress for technical accuracy and adherence to schedule and budget Facilitating meetings with client and client staff, monitoring project activities and their completion for client satisfaction Plan, organize and supervise engineering staff and activities for a project of significant size and complexity Makes recommendations on project/task staffing forecasting Ability to travel to project assignments Job Requirements Education Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience from an accredited university Professional Engineer registration required Experience/Skills Required: Bachelor’s degree with at least 9 years of related experience in transit engineering design or a civil engineering related field Demonstrated experience specific to the planning and design of Bus Rapid Transit systems Must have demonstrated experience in leading and performing BRT design tasks beyond the planning stages Experience in Light Rail, and Streetcar systems and associated support infrastructure such as transit centers, park and rides, and maintenance facilities a plus The candidate must be proficient in using AutoCAD and the civil engineering design package Civil3D Candidate must be able to work independently on engineering efforts on projects giving direction to support staff as needed and also be able to participate in a team environment on large projects including serving in the capacity as engineering task leader/project design coordinator Hands-on Project management experience desirable Demonstrated organizational and communication skills, written and verbal, desired The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
