October 18th Section Meeting Recap

Attendees of the October 18th Oregon Section Meeting enjoyed the company of Richard (Dick) Steinbrugge, Executive Director of Beaverton School District. The evening’s presentation topic was “Engineering Community Resilience through New School Designs”. Beaverton School District is executing a $680 Million bond program that will construct seven new schools that will achieve seismic Risk Category IV for the structural components and also contain features to support serving as temporary community shelters after a disaster. The school construction program represents a new benchmark in translating the concepts of the Oregon Resilience Plan into public infrastructure planning and construction. Additional costs to meet these goals were relatively small in the overall project cost. It was a fun and informal evening with plenty of good dialogue and discussion.
