PPS Career and Technical Education is seeking partners who might be interested participating in a Career Fair in conjunction with their Leap Into 9th Grade summer program aimed to provide incoming 9th graders a head start on high school as well as a broad look at careers.
We are seeking volunteers from business & industry who would be willing to participate in small career fairs at one of our six participating high schools either July 10th or July 12th from 9:00 am – 11:00. In the weeks leading up to these career fairs students are participating in career learning activities, studying career clusters and crafting questions in advance of the “What’s My Line” fair format.
We will hold these in the libraries of the high schools, with the students visiting you in small groups via a series of rotations. This will be a question and answer opportunity, with students bringing researched questions in an attempt to guess the profession of our partner participants. At some point during the event, our MC may throw out a key question or two for all to discuss.
To share your occupation or field, we ask that you talk about the work done in your field; talk about projects you have worked on; talk about your pathway (and it doesn’t have to be linear!), explain education and skills needed for entering your field; bring any models, prototypes or materials that are used in your field - tactile is good; talk to the students about what they can be doing now to prepare for a career in your field; and lastly, if there are any special moments you have had, talk about those.
This is a time to get students interested in doing your job, or at least exploring the field!
